the challengerThe CHALLENGER Series by SIMCO is a line of over a dozen new, plastic injection molded electronics enclosures. Many of these enclosures are completely new sizes that were designed according to the requirements of existing SIMCO customers. Others include completely new options that make the electronics enclosures more versatile for SIMCO’s customers.

The CHALLENGER electronics enclosures materials

The CHALLENGER electronics enclosures are constructed from the same high impact ABS material as other SIMCO products. The material gives the enclosures their characteristic soft, velvety feel while still being scratch resistant. CHALLENGER Series enclosures are available in SIMCO’s three standard colors – Black, PC Bone Grey, and Dark Grey. Available options with the CHALLENGER enclosures include EMI/RFI shielding, UL 94V9 approved materials, and other options that add value.

The CHALLENGER Series desktop housings SIMCO’s first enclosures. Introduced to the market in the early 1980’s, these desktop housings were unchallenged in both beauty and acceptance, and these have remained popular among engineers. All of the CHALLENGER enclosures included molded top and bottom covers that have drop in front and back panels. The 425×911 includes vent slots as an optional feature. The front and back panels are textured lightly and can be easily silk-screened or machined. Other options include tilt stand/handle kits and mounting brackets.

The ENDEAVOR Series are pocket size enclosures with numerous design options. The ergonomically designed cases are perfect for handheld devices. The top cover included a slightly recessed area that can be used to include a keypad or other necessary modifications. Some models also include a drop-in panel that can be made to create an opening for switches. All ENDEAVOR Series housings come with or without battery compartments. The battery door is molded and easily slides on and off for convenient access.

Some of these models will fit the SIMCO BC-1 Belt Clip. This is a one-piece ABS molded clip that easily installs onto the back of the enclosures with no drilling or machining required. The clip uses the exact same screw bosses that are utilized for assembling the case.

DISCOVERY Series handheld cases are the best-known SIMCO enclosures. This series was introduced in 1989 to much acclaim and have been popular ever since. They are stylish and include a slightly recessed area for inserting a keypad or other similar design options. The DISCOVERY Series can also come with or without battery compartments. The tops and bottoms are molded and easy to assemble. They also include PC board provisions in between the top and bottom bosses. There are two top designs for these cases – plain or aerodynamically sloped.

Four models have battery access for different battery configurations. The 36S4AB and the 36T4AB can accommodate four AA batteries, while the 36S2AB and the 36T2AB can each accommodate two AA batteries. As with the other SIMCO cases, the battery door is easily removed. This series is perfect for transmitters, receivers, and testing equipment. Additional height can be created by ordering some of these models with an expander ring in cases where larger components need to be accommodated.
